Fred Neale Thompson, 80, of Palm City, FL, passed away on October 20, 2016, at the Terrace in Hobe Sound, FL.
Born in Charlotte, NC, he had been a resident of Palm City for four years coming from Wetumpka, AL.
He was a career serviceman with the U.S. Air Force. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was a fighter pilot. He saw duty in Vietnam and had been a POW. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star and Purple Heart, among other honors. After his military career, he continued to fly as the chief pilot for Colonial Bank for 23 years.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara M. Thompson of Palm City; son David W. Thompson and his wife Connie of Sequin, TX; son Stephen E. Thompson and his wife Gina of Kingwood, TX; daughter, Jennifer L. LaCombe and her husband Dominick of Palm City; brother, Ralph Thompson and his wife Becky of Centre Hall, PA; and six grandchildren.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
